HUMONGOUS weekend coming up for the good and geeky. A little movie called The Avengers hits American screens tomorrow, Free Comic Book Day is Saturday the 5th, and all weekend long gamers will be feverishly ripping open packs of Magic the Gathering packs in the hope of pulling a Terminus or a Temporal Mastery.
The Magic packs they’ll be opening will, of course, be Avacyn Restored, releasing here at Forbidden Planet NYC tomorrow at 10a.m. Fat packs, intro decks, booster packs, playmats… a veritible smorgasbord of Avacyn product will be available, the full list of which you can see here.
And as a special thank you to our in-store MTG customers we’re offering Avacyn Restored booster boxes at $5 off our regular price the entire weekend.
VENGERS MOVIE! THIS WEEKEND! AAAAAGH! AND FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! SCREAM and RUN AROUND, waving your ARMS around LIKE a crazy WOMBAT with a sugar HIGH! AAAAGH! AAAAAAAAAGGGGHHHH!
As covered COPIOUSLY here at Unkiedev’s Amazing Stuff, comic book movies are awesome, but comic books are awesome with a side order of unicorn rainbow disco fries! Not only are comic books CHEAPER than the movies, you get to re-read them as many times as you like for the price of admission.
Let’s get this firecracker lit!
BEST AVENGERS COMICS TO KEEP THE PARTY ROLLING!
5. Avengers The Kree-Skrull War HC
I’m not just recommending this because it’s on sale this week, I’m recommending it because this endures as some of the Avenger’s finest moments. Two alien races decide that Earth shall be the battleground for their cosmic mutual destruction, and Captain America, Iron-Man, Thor and a slew of others have to set these up-jump E.T.s straight! WHAM!
4. Essential Avengers
See where it all started…or forever be a poindexter know-nothing dweeboid! Great fun at a great value, a sure fire fun time for readers of all ages.
3. Avengers Disassembled
The dark tale of the darkest moment of the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Decades in the making, Avengers Disassembled is a tight story about the terrors in our own back yard. Watch the machine fly apart when the Avenger’s find out the risks inherent in placing the good of the Universe before the needs of their own family.
2. Young Avengers
An uplifting counterpoint to Disassembled, Young Avengers gets everything about super hero comics right! Tons of bright fun with enough modern angst to make it a thoroughly modern read.

HOWDY FPNYC FAITHFUL! We are only a few short days away from New York Comic Con, and as of the time of writing, FPNYC is SOLD OUT of all passes for the biggest comic & pop culture convention on the Northeastern Coast (Fairly certain east coast as well, but there’s a small chance that I may be wrong). Myself and Loran will be at the con all weekend (well Loran for a day), covering the convention for Bleedingcool.com and tweeting 140 character one liners over at @anarchris if you want to keep tabs on the convention and see what X-Men related characters I dress up as during the weekend (yup, cosplay is happening).
For the first time at the convention, Hasbro is finally showing NYCC some love by hooking the con up with not 1, but 2 Marvel exclusives for the show. Representing the Marvel Universe line is the “Compound Hulk“, who appeared in a single issue of Jeff Parker‘s current run of “The Hulk” title. Much like the silver age Composite Superman-Batman, Compound Hulk is half Green Hulk, half Red Hulk, possibly the strongest there is. Possibly. And why SDCC got a exclusive Avengers themed Mini-Mugg box set, NYCC gets one based on the 90s crossover “Maximum Carnage.” This mini-5 packs gives us Carnage, Eddie Brock/Venom, Spider-Man, Demogoblin, and J. Jonah Jameson, with mean this 5 pack is a menace and a threat (to my wallet!), and well worth the money already. Continue reading
