The urban legend known as ‘The Father’s Day Killer’ began some years after the demise of serial rapist/murderer Chris Fuchman. Since the 1970s, the use of contraceptives has tripled in North America alone and a generation of fathers fell asleep with the covers pulled tight, buttocks clenched. The story has become a fire-side cautionary ritual on camping trips, often used by fathers to warn their sons of the dangers of unplanned pregnancy. That deep seeded fear of penetration, violation and eventually death waned as the murder and rape of fathers continued to decline all over the world. Unfortunately those numbers didn’t remain low, and it would seem that the legend is not yet complete…

Ahab, a man obsessed with exacting a brutal, violent revenge on the man who murdered his dad, joins John, an eager priest and Twink, a hot-headed street hustler on an epic quest to find and defeat this mythical monster known as Chris Fuchman AKA The Father’s Day Killer.

The newest slice of sleaze from Troma premieres Midnight Friday February 10th at NYC’s Landmark Sunshine Theater. Astron-6′s twisted tale of father rape and revenge may just be another drop in the bucket of Tromatic insanity, but compared to the Sunshine’s usual mundane midnight fare of Goonies and Princess Bride - Father’s Day is gonna blow some poor NYU kids brain.

Poultrygeist and Chripy at the Anthology Film Archives

Anthology Film Archives will be screening Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead and John Goras’ Award winning Chirpy on Friday, January 14th, 2012 at 9:00 PM. Lloyd Kaufman, President of Troma Entertainment, Creator of The Toxic Avenger and Producer, Writer and Director of Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead, will be appearing in person as well as Chirpy creator, John Goras.

Anthology Film Archives is shelling out an Eggs-cellent program with this screening, which can be considered something of a Thankschrismakawanzayears Day (with an egg on top) gift to all of Troma’s feathered and plucked fans. First, Anthology will be presenting Chirpy, a film Oscar Nominated animator Bill Plympton described as “one of the sickest animated films ever made.”

They will then continue the evening with Kaufman’s critically acclaimed Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead. Nathan Lee of the New York Times had the following to say about Poultrygeist: “Within the context of its genre – the satirical sexploitation zombie chicken gross-out musical extravaganza – it is just about as perfect as a film predicated on the joys of projectile vomiting and explosive diarrhea can be…Poultrygeist plays like a grindhouse analogue to the sloppy, psychosexual provocations of the performance artist Paul McCarthy and is, in its lowbrow way, every bit as liberating.” That’s nothing to shake your tail feathers at.

If that wasn’t enough egg-citement for you, there will also be a Q&A with the two films’ creators and plenty of “clucked-up” Troma merchandise available, all of which the ruler of the roost, Lloyd Kaufman will sign free of charge. Beak there or be square.

Happy New Year! Sorry we’ve not been around much over the Holiday Season, but I promise a return to daily posting starting now.

That being said, Forbidden Planet NYC is hosting an event this coming Sunday, January 10th with Japanese Cosplay Singer Reni. She’ll be performing live, signing CDs, taking pics, and generally being bouncy starting at 12pm. Sounds like an awesomely surreal Sunday at the Planet!

Other events we’ve lined up this coming winter include an appearance by writer/artist Steve Mannion (!!!) of THE BOMB and FEARLESS DAWN fame…

…And a special event with TROMA to commemorate their Blu-Ray release of Poultrygeist in February!

And speaking of TROMA, there’s also a free shindig going down at Otto’s Shrunken Head tonight here in NYC (14th St. between Ave A&B) featuring a live performance by The Mugs, followed by a double-header screening of Troma’s War and The Last Horror Film.

Maybe I’ll see ya there after I close the shop. Or at one of the other aforementioned gigs. Dates, times, and other specifics are being worked out for Mr. Mannion and the Poultrygeist affair, but I’ll announce them the second they’re available. Either way, I’d love to see you!
