Your mom is wonderful and cool. Alternatively, so potentially is your father. I bet mommy and daddy make the most delicious (insert delicious food here) that any human being, alien, cyborg, or giraffe has ever eaten, absorbed, processed, or licked off of a tree.
But even the most savory of dishes gets cold after repeat eatings. Rep-eatings, I guess. Is that a word?
IT IS NOW!
UNKIEDEV’S AMAZING DAILY PLANET CONTEST
SO, I was going to plug DC’s Batman and Robin #1 (Second Batman and Robin #1 in two years! Nice DC) as well as the latest Fear Itself (#6) and Ultimate Spider-Man #1…but I feel like I’ve pimped those books many, many times.
I am but one voice with one opinion and two hands to bang it out on a keyboard. You, my readers, are LEGION.
I’m starting a contest! Maybe you’ve read my column before and maybe you haven’t. Maybe you’ve picked up books I’ve recommended and been happy, dissatisfied, or totally perplexed…and then again maybe you think I’m an out of touch fusspot who dresses in frilly bo-peep costumes and talks to stuffed animals.
You’re both right. (On a side note, I am really enjoying rep-eating this pizza from last week.)
All of this content in this print newsletter, and much more, is posted daily on Forbidden Planet’s various online sites; our two blogs, our Face Book page, and our Twitter feed. I want you guys and gals to tell me what I’m missing.
What is your FAVORITE comic book that I have never mentioned, paid lip service to, or even acknowledged existing before? What titles would you write about if YOU wrote for the Weekly Planet?!
Go to the comments section for the online version of this article at http://blog.fpnyc.com and let me know. I will personally read every single comment. The best read out of all of your suggestions will get a special highlight here in the column for your fellow comic enthusiasts to take a gander at. Plus YOU will get a fabulous prize! The land of comic books is a fertile ground of rich entertainment just waiting to be mined! Recently it has been announced that the Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming title, Powers, will finally be brought to the small screen via FX. THIS is awesome!
POWERS, Brian Bendis (W), Michael Oeming (A), Publishers Various
Powers is a quintessential “Capes through the looking glass” title, a book where the tropes of superheroism are the set dressings to stories about average lives touched and shaped by the superhuman world. The main protagonists are detectives Deena Pilgrim and Christian Walker, cops who work the super-hero related homicide desk of a busy city. Continue reading
Season 4.1 of the Venture Brothers is available on finer shelves across America, and no shelves are finer then the fine and venerable shelves here at the Forbidden Planet. Ask any sales associate for assistance in locating said product, or even ask if they have any stock of Jackson Publick, the show-runner for Venture Brother’s, comic book work.
Oh yeah, Jackson did comic books!
JACKSON PUBLICK SCHOOL
Jackson Publick, a.k.a. Chris McCulloch, the voice of beloved henchman 24 as well as Hank and others started out as an indie comic book self publisher. His work caught the attention of NEC press, the guys who continue to publish one of the funniest comics of all time, Ben Edlund’s the Tick.
Jackson wrote the first stint on the Tick after Ben left, a collection NEC still keeps in print as The Tick: Karma Tornado. Some of it is very funny, some of it not so much. Lots of it will seem familiar to fans of both the Venture Brothers and the Tick Cartoon show, which Jackson was also a writer on.
Jackson’s style blends finding the inane in the insane with a real bend on personal lows. All throughout the Venture Brothers show the emphasis is on regret and failure. The Tick is, of course, immune to such pesky emotions, but almost everybody in his supporting cast are not. Continue reading

I was watching the Flintstones the other day and noticed that Fred reads a newspaper that is two solid slabs of rocks with carvings etched into them. These rocks are held together via a crude rope.
Now, if the journalists of the stone age INSTEAD tattooed the news onto the wings of small pterodactyls, and then lashed those pterodactyls together via the same crude rope I BET you could get a few more pages in the same spatial constraints as those gigantic stone newspapers. PLUS the pterodactyls are far more recyclable, as you can get eggs out of them when they grow up, or just let them fly away out the window.
AND THEN I thought “I am a raving madman for having these thoughts. I need to go have myself committed.”
MAD ABOUT COMICS
So I am writing from the psyche ward of an undisclosed private brain rehabilitation sanitarium. They are very nice to me and they let me write my columns in crayon with my feet.
DC’s Blackest Night is still going strong, and this week’s Green Lantern Corps #34 sees bemusing 80’s Green Lantern Guy Gardner lose what little cool he had as he blows his stack so high he becomes a Red Lantern. I think I know where DC is going with this: He’ll regain his will, but learn to wield BOTH the red and green power rings JUST in time to decorate Oa in festive, holiday colors for Christmas.
