Over the weekend, grainy footage from the Kick-Ass and Iron Man 2 panels at SDCC wound up on the Internet.

The Iron Man 2 footage, which was sweded by a couple of budding fanboys, showed Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) giving it to Gary Shandling which was quite hilarious.

The Kick-Ass footage, however, I don’t know whether its supposed to be funny, like its a comedy, or some kind of low-grade horror movie with splatter and physical comedy. Like some kind of uber-violent snuff film version of Mystery Men. Bleh.

Of course, there should be a disclaimer. Most of this footage was probably taken on someone’s iPhone 3GS, there is an echo, bad sound and shaky hands. So, really, to get an accurate portrayal of these two clips is next to impossible. But its worth looking at anyway.

A lot of cool things spun out of Comic Con, but given that we recommended you go shopping on Sunday, here are a few things we would love to pick up.

Booster Gold fan club t-shirt [pictured above]. It looks like this was a giveaway at the con, and if that is so, that’s quite a giveaway. Doesn’t look like its on sale, but we figure its only a matter of time.

Marvelman t-shirt. We’ve already said we love the hell out of this thing.

Flynn Lives t-shirt. From the viral marketing campaign to Tron 2.

Zombieland hand sanitizer. Because riding that NYC subway, you never know what kind of germs you may get. (via Agent M).

“Daybreak” by Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba. Very much so looking forward to this Vertigo Crime book.

“Blastosaurus” by Richard Fairgray. Just seems like its going to be a stellar and fun read.

Green Lantern: First Flight: The movie is getting great reviews from what I understand. It looks quite good.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. I’ve reserved my copy. Have you?

I know, I know–I have a t-shirt problem.

I’d also like to ask why on god’s green earth these studios don’t release the actual footage after showing it at these cons. How is showing clips to 6000 people better than showing it to everyone? Wouldn’t you build more buzz by just releasing the damn thing for the rest of us? Grr.

What exactly is the deal with being an elitist and showing it to fans at the Con? Why wouldn’t you post it on the Intertubes immediately after so millions of other people can also get fired up for the movie? Just doesn’t seem very conducive from a marketing standpoint. Are the Con-goers more special than those of us who didn’t go?

Captain America,” said Barrowman adding that obtaining the role “so won’t happen.” Another con-goer disagreed, telling Barrowman, “I think you’re the only one who could play Captain America.”

Hey anything is better than Will Smith, but I actually think this would be interesting casting. Though, I think we’ll end up seeing an unknown, especially when you take the Avengers movie into consideration, and Barrowman is a relative-unknown but he’s also kind of a clown–which I like. When I think about Cap, I see someone not light hearted, but kind of a hard ass with a personality that is tough to relate to, clearly.

At San Diego Comic Con, Jeff Katz announced creators behind his comedy anthology book “Comedy Death Ray,” and the first film to come out of the comic book and film production house.

Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Silverman, Patton Oswalt, B.J. Novak, David Cross, Janeane Garofalo, Paul Scheer and Zach Galifianakis are among some of the first to contribute to the anthology, for which each comedian will create a comicbook.

The goal is to see individual books in the “Comedy Death Ray” series, shepherded by Scott Aukerman, generate spinoffs for TV or film that would be produced by American Original.

“Comedy Death Ray” in its original incarnation was a “night of comedy” headed by Scott Aukerman, which also became a radio show. Its some excellent stuff, and considering the amount of talent contributing to the anthology, I think this may be one of the freshest comics to come out. Especially with Patton Oswalt, a personal favorite of mine.

Also announced, is AO’s partnership with Rantz Hoseley’s digital comics distribution device LongBox, which seems to me to be a iTunes for comics. Also announced is a dramatic feature of the documentary “Bigger, Stronger, Faster”:

The company’s branding arm recently signed TNA Wrestling, a rival to World Wrestling Entertainment, and in addition to trying to build TNA into a bigger biz, one of Katz’s first projects will be to adapt the sports docu “Bigger, Stronger, Faster,” into a scripted feature.

Project, to be penned by the docu’s helmer Chris Bell, with Jason Dolan (“Sydney Hall”), will be a “Traffic”-like exploration of performance-enhancing drugs. Katz will produce with docu producers Alex Buono and Tamsin Rawady serving as exec producers.

This will be exceptionally interesting considering how performance enhancing drugs have long been a mainstay in wrestling, and only recently has it come to light how these drugs affect these athletes. Also, mentioned are the deals with Titmouse Animation, the people behind “Afro Samurai” and“Metalocalypse”, and a sci-fi anthology called the “Galaxy Project” with the creature designers behind “Alien vs Predator.”

Sounds like some neat stuff coming out through the new company.

At the San Diego Comic Con, people expected that Russell T. Davies would announce a “Doctor Who” movie starring David Tennant, but we would get nothing of the sort. Instead, what audience members got were trailers for the final three episodes of Tennant’s run as the Time Lord. And apparently, he’s sorry:

I think he feels guilty. I think he’s in a very difficult position. He has to make the hard choices, and he’s riddled with remorse for what happened to his people, and the part he played in that, which we’ll learn a little bit more about before I disappear. [Laughs] Not that much, just a little bit. It’s not the three-part miniseries staring [former 1990s Doctor] Paul McGann. But I think he’s tortured, and he travels time and space trying to make it better… but some of the side effects of that are not as we’d wish them to be.

The first special, that airs tonight on BBC America, titled “The Planet of the Dead” stars “Bionic Woman” Michelle Ryan as a cat-burgler who finds herself stranded on a bus that has been teleported into a desert of the dead. The second special, “The Water of Mars” involves a water monster. The final two-parter “The End of Time” which features Tennant’s Doctor’s death and change into Matt Smith is quite the tear-jerker apparently:

Not surprisingly, Tennant and the production crew all promise some of the series’ strongest moments in the final episodes of 2009, and Euros Lynn said he showed the regeneration scene (where Tennant’s Doctor “dies” and turns into Matt Smith) to composer Murray Gold, who bawled like a baby.

During the filming, says Gardner, “Every day there was a new goodbye of some sort to someone.”

“The End of Time” will also see the return of The Master, John Simm. Which makes me excited because as of this writing I’m watching Jon Simm take over Britain in the season finale to “Doctor Who” season 3.

I just want to take a second and congratulate Jonah Weiland and Comic Book Resources for their Eisner win. Frankly since the re-design during New York Comic Con in April 2008, I really hoped that this year would be the year that CBR would take the award home, and frankly, it was long overdue.

Second, I want to congratulate Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca on their excellent win for Best New Series for “Invincible Iron Man.”

Third, to Rantz Hoseley and everyone who contributed to “Comic Book Tattoo” frankly, it would have been a travesty if they did NOT win. Now let’s get Ivan Brandon’s “24Seven” an anthology award. If there is going to be a third volume….

Man, have I been waiting with baited breath for this announcement for what seems like forever. Well, almost a year, really. Yesterday, the Bens, (those being Ben McCool and Ben Templesmith) announced they will be bringing “Choker” to Image Comics.

Ben (McCool) has to be one of the most creative and likable guys I know in New York City, and being the fiance to The Beat’s Heidi MacDonald has probably had some stellar guidance in getting his first original work off the ground. Here’s what “Choker” is all about, from Ben’s words :

BEN MCCOOL: I guess I’d better lay down the disclaimers, then: language used is dastardly goings-on are repellent, and the characters are so lewd you’ll feel like only an industrial-strength jet wash will be able to rinse your tarnished conscience clean. Put simply, we’re hoping to give Bill O’Reilly a Rush Limbaugh-resembling hernia.

Okay, okay, it’s not all depravation. In a nutshell, it’s a hard boiled noir fable set on an unconventional backdrop: Johnny “Choker” Jackson, an ex-Shotgun City police detective who lives in his own rendition of hell. His case of Alien Hand Syndrome has manifested into the most psychotic entity on the planet, he’s stuck working at a deadbeat detective agency, and he’s engaged in a squalid and involuntary amour with an otherworldly creature that dwells beneath his bathtub. That, believe it or not, is just for starters.

But there’s prospective light at the end of the tunnel: a high-profile con Johnny once put behind bars is at large, and not even the city’s elite has been able to track the sleazebag down. The police department has offered Johnny a deal: put the rogue back in his below regulation-sized cell and he’s got a job for life. However, it comes at a price, and it’s one nobody will see coming. But if you want something, and want it real bad, what would you be willing to do to get it?

There’s a great interview with the Bens discussing the new work, and more promotional images. A “Choker” short story can be seen in “Liberty Comics #2″ coming in the Fall.

To be candid, this is easily the book that I am most looking forward to coming out of the con, having talked about it with Mr. McCool while the Pittsburgh Steelers were making their run to the Super Bowl. Congratulations to you guys.
