Get SuperTrashed TONIGHT with Jacques Boyreau at Brooklyn’s Nitehawk!

This weekend at Brooklyn’s Nitehawk Cinema get SuperTrashed with cult connoisseur Jacques Boyreau for a screening of the psychotronic Shatner classic Impulse!

Fri April 17th and Sat April 18th at Midnight
Impulse @ Nitehawk Cinema
136 Metropolitan Avenue
Impulse

SuperTrash presents the dark side of William Shatner in 1974’s IMPULSE.

In Impluse, The Shat perfs a very touchy cat, Matt Stone, a matricide survivor who’s become a honeymoon slayer. Forever cuckoo’ed by his trauma, Shatner plays the role like Hamlet — if Ham was a prism of Sonny Chiba, Robert Goulet, and Dracula‘s Renfield. Impulse is breezy and sleazy, like easy-listening grindhouse with an immaculate 70’s vibe. William Grefe directs exploitation with–shall we say–seriousness, as seen in other Grefe works like Stanley and The Hooked Generation. Perhaps the real-dealio credit belongs to writer Tony Crechales, who was definitely on a psychodrama bender having previously penned The Killing Kind and So Evil, My Sister.

Presenting Impulse is a SuperTrash pleasure for curator-author Jacques Boyreau and designer Joe Niem–with thanks to archivist Scott Moffett. For the curious and cogently unhinged, we include a gallery of SuperTrash legacy, representing museum shows, books, underground cellars, and upcoming web commerce…Pig in and dig out…!

Street Trash @ Nitehawk w/ Roy Frumkes 2/17 & 2/18

This Friday and Saturday’s Midnight Movie at the Nitehawk Cinema is gonna be a sticky one… and that ain’t spilt soda.

Street Trash screened off of 35mm, preceded by Swirlee a short featuring James Lorinz with Roy Frumkes & Rocco Simonelli in person for a Q&A hosted by me! All thanks to the good folks over at Basic Cable Classics, what more could you ask for?

TWO MIDNIGHT SHOWS. Friday 2/17 and Saturday 2/18.

Both screenings will be preceded by the short SWIRLEE w/writer Rocco Simonelli on hand for a Q&A. Roy Frumkes, writer of STREET TRASH will introduce the film.

STREET TRASH (1987)
… In the sleazy, foreboding world of winos, derelicts and drifters in pre-gentrified Brooklyn, two young runaways live in a tire hut in the back of a vast auto wrecking yard. The most lethal threat to the boys is the case of Tenafly Viper in Ed’s liquor store window. The stuff’s forty years old, and it’s gone real bad. Anyone who drinks it melts within seconds… and it’s only a dollar a bottle!!

STREET TRASH is the subversive cult classic horror-comedy that rode the last wave of super-gore in the late ’80s before the curtain fell on such outrageous material and we entered an era of safe, “R” rated horror flicks and endless, unoriginal remakes.

This special 35mm presentation will be preceded by a super-rare screening of the completely unavailable SWIRLEE (2000), featuring the nightmarish misadventures of Mr. Softee, the man with an ice cream cone head, starring David Caruso.

DVD and Poster giveaways! Roy Frumkes & Rocco Simonelli in person for Q&A!

R.S.V.P. on facebook.

Even The L Magazine thinks it’s a good idea.

Available Today @ FP: The Basement DVD/VHS Big Box Set!

Thank the good folks over at Alternative Cinema/Camp Motion Pictures for having the balls to release The Basement a brand spanking new VHS… DVD box set.

Directed By: Tim O’Rawe, Gary Cohen, Jon McBride
Starring: Dennis Driscoll, Kathleen Heidinger, David Webber, Scott Corizzi, Traci Mann, Pamela Kramer, John Fedele

The Ultimate Gift to Fans of 1980’s DIY Horror Cinema!  VHS / DVD 5-Film Collection in an Exclusive VHS Collector’s Package that Includes Classic Early 1980’s Home Video VHS “Big Box” Packaging!  Also Includes the Never-Before-Released 8mm feature, The Basement, on DVD…and VHS!

Available for the first time on VHS and DVD, The Basement is the lost 1989 Super 8 anthology feature film directed by Timothy O’Rawe (Ghoul School). Restored by director of photography Michael Raso in 2010, The Basement is a shining example of 80’s DIY cinema inspired by Amicus Films’ Tales from the Crypt and featuring elaborate special make-up and creature effects by Scott Hart.

The Basement (1989) – Directed by Tim O’Rawe. Four strangers are summoned to the basement of an abandoned house by a mysterious entity known only as The Sentinel.  One after another, they are forced to witness heinous deeds they have yet to commit – and which will damn them for all eternity.

Swimming Pool – An unfaithful woman disposes of the evidence with a little help from a demonic water spirit.

Trick or Treat – Classic monsters exact revenge on a bitter man who refuses to honor Halloween.

Zombie Movie – Cocaine, hookers and reanimated corpses wreak havoc on the set of an independent film.

Home Sweet Home – A young man questions his sanity after purchasing a house where torture and mass murder were committed 6 years before.

The best part about The Basement is it’s actually really good.  It’s the perfect mix of classic anthology horror and underground splatter cinema.  Imagine if the original Tales From The Crypt was produced by Troma in the 80’s.  The rest of the films in the set are great too and if you’re a fan of Gary Cohen’s Video Violence series you’ll be stoked to finally get Captives on DVD.

This set gets the Matt D seal of approval! Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for info on the upcoming Basement release party at Nitehawk Cinema.

What are you waiting for… get over here and pick up The Basement!

TONIGHT! TV Carnage and Found Footage Festival Party at Nitehawk Cinema

TV Carnage & Friends

Thursday Aug 4, 2011 – 9:30pm

Tonight at the Nitehawk Cinema there will be a live TV Carnage event featuring some dudes from the Found Footage Festival, a must for all you boob tubers.

Nitehawk Cinema

136 Metropolitan Ave.

Brooklyn, NY 11211

If I wasn’t working tonight I would be at this…

The unquestioned master of the video mixtape, Derrick “Pinky” Beckles (Adult Swim, Street Carnage), hosts this night of TV Carnage that will “stab your tender brain-sac with deliciously infected shards of the worst, most cringe-inducing sights ever to come to life on the electronic devil we have come to know as video.” Nick will be there to present some FFF goodies and short films. It’s at the new and awesome Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn.

“There will be food, drink, merriment, smiles, more merriment, a heckler or two, a shouting match between Pinky and an audience member, and most likely a straw hat choc-full of aggravated assault charges. Come participate and/or bear witness to the mayhem ultimately to be labeled by local papers as a ‘tragedy.'”

If you go… don’t rub it in.

Destroy All VHS

Coming to Brooklyn this Sunday July 10th, Wild Eye Releasing and Nitehawk Cinema present an event to sate the  needs of any film freak.  This ain’t no retro throw back, this is the real deal!  Put your life on pause and prepare to Destroy All VHS!  Not literally, I hope… but you never know what might happen after a few drinks.

Destroy All VHS is a one of a kind event celebrating the greatest home video format ever invented… VHS!  At 10 PM the Play Button is pressed and the fun begins.  First your eyes will be treated to tons of trailers and home movies, then a VCR demonstration by every Videovore’s favorite VHS magazine, Lunchmeat, followed by a sexy/scary clip show by the Horror Boobs.

To top it off-  a showing of Friday The 13th The Orphan! If there was one reason to attend, it would be to catch this rare (never available on your schmancy DVD or Blew-ray format) forgotten classic. All  screened straight from the VCR so you can revel in the fuzz, blips, grain, scratches and screeches.  And if you got a problem with the way it looks get up there and fix the tracking yourself!

Did I mention that the Nitehawk Cinema rules?!  Well if I haven’t yet I did just now.  The theater’s located in Williamsburg Brooklyn just a few blocks off the Bedford Avenue L train stop.  That’s only one stop out of the city, giving you Manahattanites no real excuse.  They have a full bar and restaurant so you can get your drank and chomp on.  And the icing on the cake?  A VHS Museum, so you can soak in that beautiful Big Box art like a true trash connoisseur.

But wait there’s EVEN more…

Both Lunchmeat and Horror Boobs will have a merch table with magazines, T-Shirts, buttons, and most importantly TAPES!!!  I will personally be bringing a slew of crazy rare stuff for trade and sale.  Trades are obviously preferred!!!

One more time…

Destroy All VHS
