Model Hunger DVD Release Party July 13th

Wednesday July 13th from 6:30 – 8:30 come celebrate the DVD release of Model Hunger at Forbidden Planet NYC!

Model Hunger Forbidden Planet NYC signing Debbie Rochon

One of our favorite companies, Wild Eye Releasing is putting out the feature film directorial debut of Debbie Rochon, one of our most favorite people in the world, and we’re gonna have a release party of epic proportions to celebrate!  Just look at this guest list…

Debbie Rochon – Director
James Morgart – Writer, Executive Producer
Mary Bogle – Star
Voltaire – Star
Kaylee Williams – Star
David Marancik – Star
Michael Thurber – Star
Carmine Capobianco – Star
Suzi Lorraine – Star

You probably know Debbie from at least one of her two hundred plus roles (you read that right… TWO HUNDRED PLUS – that means more than two hundred). In fact IMDB currently boasts 246 acting credits. She’s been directed by a countless number of independent auteurs, so it’s about time she got behind the camera to give us her visceral vision. I’m sure anyone who has been directed by the likes of Lloyd Kaufman or Chris Seaver has said to themselves… “I can do that!” and we here at FP are glad that Debbie did.

When new neighbors Debbie and Sal move in, they begin to notice strange things happening, as the list of missing young women begins to grow. What has Ginny been doing in her basement all these years, and can she be stopped’

Matt and Alec’s Bogus Video from September 18th and Me from my Desk Last Friday

Forgot to post these new Google+ Hangout videos from last week.

Here’s Matt and Alec talking Sons of Anarchy, WWE, NYCC, re-creating telephone calls Alec receives from customers, Just Us League MAD toys and a whole lot more…

And here’s me from my desk… “Haven’t even had time since the move to put pictures of my kids here. I don’t have kids, but if I did that’s where they’d go.” I’m paraphrasing of course. The gyst is I really want you to check out and enjoy the works of Julia Wertz and Theo Ellsworth.

From the Forbidden Planet NYC Stockroom- Tuesday 9/25/12

Got 28 minutes of your life to spend on Matt and I talking new arrivals, Happy #1, Space Punisher, crappy old Image Comics, movies, Star Trek the Next generation, comic cons, Mark Hamill and Corvette Summer?  Like hearing me say “um?”  Have I got a video for you!

Sorry if it’s a little dark this week. Better light next time. Oh, and there’s a slight technical glitch (about 8 seconds) when we start talking about Happy #1. Stick with it.

Next LIVE broadcast is Friday the 28th at 7pm.

Matt and Jeff Live from the Forbidden Planet NYC Basement

Some goofs on our first take. The store’s wi-fi cut out for about five minutes, thus making us late for the 4pm Hangout On Air.  We missed a chance to have a prominent celebrity customer join us because of the delay in setting back up, and I still have a lot to learn about the minutiae of running these…

Still, Matt and I got it together and streamed the following, LIVE on a laptop to our Google+ and Youtube pages. The FPNYCTV Television network is on the air…

And about the Twitter and Facebook cards… Okay. Didn’t realize the audience could read ’em just fine. I can be a real dummy sometimes.

Next show Friday 9/14/12 at 7pm from the floor of the new FP.

Gyo Gets Animated

Junji Ito’s wild horror manga Gyo is getting the anime treatment and I’m squirming with excitement!

Up until fairly recent I was only vaguely familiar with Ito’s work, mostly from the live action adaptation of Uzumaki and seeing his name on various books in the store.  That is until I picked up Gyo. Immediately blown away by every aspect of it I’ve been rabidly devouring any of his stuff that I can find. The setup is simple yet so original and unforgettable… Fish grow legs, come out of the water and start taking over the land.  Now I’m not talking about smart talking fish people devising a world conquering plan. I’m talking about a massive amount of stupid fish, all types of fish, small fish, big fish, red fish… you get it…fish with legs that simply force the humans out due to strength in numbers and stench for that matter.

After getting about half way through the first volume I began to wonder why this was never adapted into a live action film like some of Ito’s other work like Uzumaki and the Tomie series.  I’ll settle for an animated version, but hopefully it generates enough interest for a live action Gyo.

Seriously though who wouldn’t want to see a real land shark!
