HAM FISTED
The other day I was about to eat a ham sandwich when I suddenly realized I wasn’t hungry. No sooner had I put the thing down that it started to talk, telling me how it was a magical sandwich, that it was the prince of Hamsandwichia and how thankful it was that I spared its [...]
FIGHT!
Logic assures that there can be Good comic books which do not contain fight scenes, but emotion would remind you that fight scenes are incredible awesome. Here at Forbidden Planet we want you, the comic book buying populous, to get in on all that the genre has to offer. Today we shall recommend a few tantalizing comics of the [...]
TRY SOMETHING NEW CHAPTER 7: Against The Evil Galactic Empire.
(note: This weeks column will be structured like a Choose Your Own Adventure. If you do not understand what a Choose Your Own Adventure story is you should call your parents and ask them why they didn’t give you a better childhood.)
So here we are again. Me at my computer, drinking chocolate milk like an adult. It’s 3 AM. I had a really long day and I don’t want to get into the details. On the bright side I had dinner at a Chinese restaurant next to Peter Scolari. I also thought I recognized the guy sitting on the other side of the room but I realized after dinner that I thought it was Walter Cronkite and I am pretty sure he’s dead. So that was either not him or the craziest celebrity sighting ever. Peter Scolari isn’t dead, right? If he is, you all should check out this Chinese spot on 74th and Amsterdam. It’s like Dawn Of The Dead but with soup dumplings. Anyway, enough about me. What’s going on with you? If you are reading the newsletter in Forbidden Planet please proceed to PARAGRAPH 1. If you are reading the blog on FPNYC.com skip ahead to PARAGRAPH 2. If you are reading the newsletter somewhere outside the store please jump to PARAGRAPH 3.
TRY SOMETHING NEW Chapter 2: A Long Time Ago
So here we are at my second column of TRY SOMETHING NEW! already. Wasn’t too pleased with how the the first one came out, 20/20 hindsight and all, but we press on. New comics wait for no man or woman and so this column where I berate you for not buying enough new comics waits [...]
The Book You Forgot to Buy Last Week
Elektra Assassin is one of the all-time great graphic novels and just came back into print in TP form last Wednesday August 15th. I did not make sure to raise a clamor about this fact personally, busy as I was with other stuphs and absent from the floor. Now is my chance to right that. [...]

Large headed Heroes, Ponies and a brief, belated Toy Fair 2012 Recap
by Chris Troy. I really hate typing out cliche stuff like “a dollar doesn’t buy you much these days, especially in NYC”, but considering how much it costs to ride the subway these days, it’s kind of true. HOWEVER, for a mere $1, you can pick one of the new Marvel Heroes Buildable Figurines from [...]
New and Notable- Daredevil by Mark Waid HC Volume 1
As I mentioned on our Twitter feed this past weekend, Wednesday the 25th is the official release day for the first collected HC of, hands down, my favorite mainstream superhero book since All Star Superman. No hyperbole, no guff. It’s that good. That being said, if you’d like to follow my recommendation for this book [...]

Countdown to NYCC part 2
by Chris Troy Hey FPNYC faithful, in a few short hours, yours truly will be at the Javitis Center, fan-gasming over the nerdfest that is the 2011 New York Comic Con. Despite being a show veteran, this is my favorite convention of the year, and I’m really excited to see what the likes of Marvel, [...]
Marvel Universe Thanos Review
by Loran Larger 3.75” figures tend to be pretty hit or miss. Once in awhile, you can get something great like the Resolute/Rise of Cobra sculpt for Roadblock from G.I. Joe; a great interpretation of the character that gives him the proper height amongst his teammates. Other times you end up with the drones from [...]
Clix Clix Boom
by Chris Troy Hey there FPNYC faithful, were you aware that Forbidden Planet has a small, yet awesome gaming section? Not of the video game variety (like there’s a shortage of Gamestops in Manhattan), but TCGs like Magic:The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh & Pokemon? Try as I might, I could could really never get into them, mostly [...]

This coming Wednesday Marvel’s Uncanny X-Force Volume 1 The Apocalypse Solution hits the shelves. Written by Rick Remender and illustrated by Jerome Opena, so you know its got the Matt D approval. You’ll see me pushing their Fear Agent, or Punisher regularly. When the singles of this came out people were in here rabidly eating them up. Gone by [...]
Short-packed: TIA NY and various DC products
by Christopher Troy As we speak, Toy Fair is going down up over in the Javitis Center (home of NYCC!) in NYC. While I’m still trying to compile images and info for the FPNYC blog, I’ve already seen some of the new products I know I’ll be spending my money on throughout 2011, as Square [...]
