Tamashii Nation 2012 Part 1 Arts!

Tamashii Fest is here yet again!!

It seems every year Bandai shows off some really awesome stuff at Tamashii fest and you have to wonder how they can outdo themselves. Somehow, they manage to find a way. This year’s Tamashii Fest has been filled with some of the same stuff we’re used to, plus some absolutely fantastic new surprises. I’ll be splitting things up into two reports, one for robots; one for the various *Arts lines. I’ll be covering just the stuff I’m interested, so if you want to see the full spread, you’ll have to check out Bluefin Distribution/Tamashii Nations USA’s Facebook page.

Also remember that everything here is an item that MAY come out. For every five or so toys that do see the light of day, one always ends up in release hell, like Master Asia.

This part will cover the various *Arts figures that have been displayed.

To start off, we’ve got a ton of the other Riders from Kamen Rider Ryuki! Yeah, I bet everyone who bought the Figmas feels really silly right now (I am one of such people). Odin, Ouja, Zolda, Femme, Tiger, Scissors, and Knight Survive were all on display. I own the Figmas of Ouja, Zolda, and Femme, but honestly, I might grab the figuarts, too, just because I like the designs that much, especially Ouja. Ouja is just too cool.

One of the big, crazy, totally out-of-left-field announcements were the D-Arts for Pokémon! Yeah, nobody saw these coming. We know Mewtwo (with bonus Mew) is coming out for sure, but Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur are up in the air for now. Chances are, they’re waiting on how Mewtwo’s sales go. Honestly? This figure is so cool I might have to get one for myself. Just look at the TAIL. I see Pokémon having a pretty bright future under the D-Arts brand.

Sadly, Bluefin did not have pictures of the three final form starters…

While I haven’t bought any or really talked about them much, Bandai gets ALL MY RESPECT for announcing a Monster Arts of Biollante from the second Heisei Godzilla film, Godzilla vs. Biollante. People tend to forget about that one, sadly. It’s far from the best, but certainly not the worst. I just love how most of the Monster Arts figures have been from the Heisei era of films. These ones were all my favorites, and even the ones that didn’t make any sense were completely awesome. I’m looking at you, Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah.

The announcement of classic Mega Man and Rush has gotten many excited, as well as the more recent announcement of Bass and Treble. I’m actually not too excited for these, since I’m more of an X fan, but it’s good to see someone out there doesn’t hate Mega Man like Capcom does!

Indeed, a huge stir was made over the announcement of Tyrannoranger from Zyuranger/the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Red Ranger, but now we’ve got a prototype of Dragonranger/Green Ranger to ogle over as well!! Yeah, I’m really hoping we see the whole team… I already sold off most of my vintage figures!

Somehow, I missed the announcement for the Android 18 Figuart from Dragon Ball Z? Yeah… I may have some interest in her. Of course, that would require me to actually get into these, and I don’t think my wallet can take it…

…especially after this stole the show.

Yes, that’s Naoko Takeuchi showing off the new SAILOR MOON Figuart for the new anime debuting next year! Yes, I’m hyped for this and I seriously hope we can get the whole team. All I gotta say is, it’s about damn time.

My wallet cries out in agony at seeing some of these figures. Remember, if you’re ever interested in them, be sure to talk to anyone at FPNYC about getting them in stock!!

New Arrivals: Rather be playing Zelda edition.

by Chris Troy

THE BEAST IS DEAD! CHRISTMAS IS OVER, AND NOW YOU HAVE CASH AND/OR  GIFT CARDS TO USE ON CRAP THAT YOU REALLY DON’T NEED, BUT YOU WILL ANYWAY, DESPITE YOUR WIFE YELLING AT YOU FOR THE AMOUNT OF TOYS & STATUES CURRENTLY IN THE LIVING ROOM…whoops, projecting in my articles again. Anywho, hope you had a happy whatever holiday you celebrate(d), as mine was pretty rad and full of new video games.

First and foremost: SH Figuarts update. If you recall last week’s article, I mentioned that Figuarts MechaGodzilla was a thing that we would soon have in. Change “soon” to “Currently in stock.” Much like his organic counterpart, Mecha-G is made up of 2 different materials; die-cast and zinc alloy. I really like that Bandai is going this route for these “MonsterArt” figures. He also comes with some variant pieces, nuclear breathe, and a stand for said breathe. In non-Kauji Figuarts news, we also have the Super Sayian Vegeta (Dragonball Z) Figuarts in stock. I have a nature bias towards Dragonball figures, as I was working at a Toys R Us at the height of DBZ’s popularity, so occasionally I have flashbacks to being swarmed by small children and neckbeards rushing me to get to the shelves, only to find out that the only figures we had in stock were some canon fodder villains.

That being said, the Figuarts are arguable the best DBZ figured made to date (which says a lot, as there’s been a ton of them over the years, crapped out by a varieties of companies in both the East and the West). The Prince of all Sayians is well-sculpted like most Figuarts, and comes with a variety of variants hands and faces. We have limited quantities of all these figures in stock, so get ‘em while we still have em. Ebay prices are scary yo.

I’d also like to point out that we have a ton of newish Heroclix figures instock as well!  For Marvel and DC-related things, we have both the Incredible Hulk and the Superman series in stock, as well as some non-comic book based properties in, like Gears of War and the Lord of the Rings. If you play, you’re gonna to want to pick up those LOTR Clix up ASAP, as the Hobbit trailer dropped last week, so there’s been a huge surge in anything Tolkien related as of late. Continue reading

Welcome To Sibuya-Cho

By Mat K.

Okay, all of you who keep up with me and my rants and reviews, remember the other week when I was going on about how 20th Century Boys has been falling behind and why Volume 3 wasn’t out already? Well, almost as if someone at Viz actually reads these articles, here it is! That’s right this week 20th Century Boys Volume 3 By Naoki Urasawa shows up this week. But don’t blow all your energy just yet, it’s an exciting week.

20th Century Boys Vol. 3
20th Century Boys Vol. 3

It’s also a Viz Big editions week. Fushigi Yugi 2, Dragon Ball Z 4, and Rurouni Kenshin 6 Viz Bigs are all coming in. Oh, and so is the new Shojo Beat Magazine for July. And TokyoPop thinks they can play the game too putting out the first Gravitation Collection. Though if we’ve learned anything from them, it’s that they only ever do first volumes of these things. At least we can trust Viz to finish out the series.

Gestalt Vol. 1
Gestalt Vol. 1

There are also 2 premier series that have got my antennae twitching. The first of which is the Lucky Star manga by Kagami Yoshimizu. A lot of the girls out there went mad for the anime, and the mechandise we have been able to get in, and how could you not? It’s so cute. And now’s your chance to read the cuteness. Okay, and the second book coming in is the third series to release in America by Yun Kouga (creator of Earthian and Loveless), called Gestalt. The premise? Ages ago the gods were at war. One god was cast out and found refuge on an island known only as G. I shouldn’t have to tell you the artwork is pretty, but it is, and definitely worth checking out.

Samurai Champloo Box Set
Samurai Champloo Box Set

Finally, got some DVD news for you all. A new Samurai Champloo thin pack box set came in and it’s only $69.99 (compared to the original box set that was closer to $180). There’s also the latest volume of Darker Than Black, and D. Gray-Man. There will also be much more showing up that I can’t even conceive of while I write this on Monday afternoon. Anyways, thats all this time.

Ja Ne!
