This coming Wednesday Marvel’s Uncanny X-Force Volume 1 The Apocalypse Solution hits the shelves. Written by Rick Remender and illustrated by Jerome Opena, so you know its got the Matt D approval. You’ll see me pushing their Fear Agent, or Punisher regularly.

When the singles of this came out people were in here rabidly eating them up. Gone by Thursday night the latest. When asked for back issues I would have to ask the person “Where have you been?.. . Man.” Every one loves a new X-Book. Not only does this have some of the most beautiful art I’ve seen in modern comics, this one is easily accesible by guys like me who have a hard time following X-Books. I’m not totally lost because I haven’t been reading all 17 different X-Titles coming out each month.

I like comics that only need one book on the shelf to get the point across, thats why I read stuff like Punisher and Fear Agent in the first place. Gimme a comic with one guy up against everyone in a no win situation over one with a team beating on one dude any day. But we can trust our buddy Rick to do a heck of a job writing a sick and twisted team book easy enough for new comers to enjoy yet involving current X-Universe stuff to keep hardcore fans pleased. So thats the X-Scoop on this X-Trade that you can order from our X-Web Store, or buy in our X-Store on X-Wednesday.

Did I mention it has Deadpool in it.

I figured it’s time to start some reoccurring blog entries. So how about a tattoo tribute search, and who better to start with than everyone’s favorite merc with a mouth… Deadpool! So if you got an awesome Deadpool tattoo post it in the comments. I myself am tattooless (still hoping to be buried in a Jewish cemetery) so unfortunately I can’t post any examples of my own, but here’s some some great Deadpool tattoos I found on the web.

Headpool from Deadpool Fan Links.

Deadpool Vs Wolverine from a Flickr Superhero tattoo group.

Deadpool Vs Wolverine (Again?) from Comic Vine.

Boobpool… look how the blade accentuates this guys muscle! Found on Deviant Art.

Here’s my personal favorite… Lip-pool! Also found on Deviant Art, check out this girls pictures while you’re at it. She’s got a great one of her cosplaying (love that word) as Marvel Comic’s Domino!

So there you have it… my first tattoo tribute post, isn’t it fascinating what people will put on their bodies FOREVER! So please post your Deadpool tattoos and stay tuned for more Tattoo Tributes!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone make such great use of the exclamation mark. Or not. Anyway, Rob, who is truly a man among midgets, shares my enthusiasm, considering my long standing obsession with Deadpool. I’m happy to hear that it will be a reboot and Ryan Reynolds won’t be walking around as the Merc Without a Mouth.

Good evening one and all, and welcome to our second installment of the Thursday Walk of Shame. I am Dave Press, this week we discuss my ridiculous obsession with Deadpool, “Coraline”, “Immortal Weapons #1″ and “Dethklok vs The Goon.” So without further ado, let’s do this thing:

***

by Skottie Young

DAVE: I have this obsession lately, and that obsession is Deadpool. The only prescription is more Deadpool. I never read him when he was popular in the 90s, but lately, I can’t get enough of him. There are three separate series out featuring him now, and normally I avoid things like that like the plague, but I can’t stop myself from getting them. They are all good, I enjoy myself immensely with them. Maybe its a lack of “fun” comics or something but I think those Deadpool comics just do something. What do you recommend, Dr. Ayers?

JEFF: Fun comics are always doctor’s orders. Thankfully there’s been a bit of a renaissance of funitude. Dr. Ayers currently suggests you take two Dethklok vs. The Goon and call your mother in the morning. I don’t watch the show or read The Goon with much regularity, but damn that comic was funny. Deadpool and I parted ways when Rob Liefeld bailed.

WAIT A MINUTE…. Here we go again- Deadpool, huh? Wasn’t he played by Ryan Reynolds? hmmmm…. methinks me sense a trend here Mr. Press.

No, no, this sickness began probably a year ago. Tell us about Dethklok vs The Goon. What was some of those funny moments?

Like any good team-up, a la Scooby-Doo/Globetrotters etc (awesome!), our heroes get down to performing what they do best for their fans: The Goon crew hacking and maiming, blood n’ guts galore, the Metalocalypse boys rockin out! Lyrics include the now classic, “Little did you know that the ink in this comic was mixed with our own blood… After we mixed our blood with poison!! Lick the ink from your fingers and embrace your death! Death by Darkness!” and “Dave Press wants to bear Ryan Reynolds’ babies then makes sweet sweet love to them!”

It’s a pretty funny book. Hopefully a Deathklok regular books takes off.

I feel a need to bring up Wednesday Comics #3, cuz dem’s damn fun comics!!! Brilliant stuff again. Why can’t that sense of playful exuberance exist in comics more… PP’s Strange Adventures is terrific, and that Bermejo Superman has really grown on me. God, I even love the Iris West romance strip!

Not a very strong Gaiman/Allred Metamorpho entry in this ish, tho….

Yeah, I was going to say those Iris West strips are fantastic. I mean, I dug the

Dethklok vs The Goon

Wonder Woman at first, but I’m pretty sure I’m going to move up to loving The Flash by the end of this thing. Paul Pope, naturally, always brilliant. I wish I was at SDCC for his DJ set, but he does that stuff here all the time so I’m not that sad.

But speaking of playful exuberance there was quite a bit of it in IMMORTAL WEAPONS #1. I’ll buy the hell out of anything regarding that Iron Fist universe. This featured Fat Cobra where he hired an author to research his life and write his memoirs. Except Fat Cobra, so obsessed with his life and thinking that he lived such a proud warrior life, had anything but. He would exalt on the first few pages, “Tell me about my warrior parents and how they died proudly in battle!” and the author, Carmichael said, “ACTUALLY, your parents were pig farmers and your mother died giving birth to you because you were so fat.” Or something like that. The comic is full of stuff like that. Really hilarious. Plus some gorgeous art from Michael Lark, and many others. Written by Jason Aaron.

That “love” scene was pretty hilarious. First, Fat Cobra and and this lady are fighting (“Flying Monkey Flip Kick,” Hell’s Dentist”) then they’re making out, lickin ears, and pinching the fat bastid’s nipples (“Nine Suns Nipple Clamp”)!!! Holy crap! I couldn’t believe my virgin eyes!

There’s gotta be some kind of NO-Prize for anyone who can actually tell me of a Marvel comic where someone receives a sexual purple nurple…

Kneading the Golden Dough. HA!

Yeh, it was probably my favorite issue of the week. So, we just watched CORALINE. It was just beautiful. Have you read it?

Yeah. You? Heard there were some plot points that were different. I haven’t seen the film yet, except some really stunning visuals. Why’d ya like it?

What I really enjoyed about it was that even though its a kid’s story, there is still that underlying creepiness to all kid’s stories, or at least good ones. That’s what I really like about Neil Gaiman‘s sensibilities, there was still that scary, lonely creepiness that comes when you’re in that in between stage of your childhood. Like when you’re 11 or 12. No wonder he wins all kinds of kid’s book awards left and right. He writes them for them, but doesn’t put on the kiddie wheels to take them along a primrose path.

Damn skippy, Dave. I’m gonna go jump into my Robotech jammies and curl up with a bedtime story. Good night, Ryan Reynolds. Good night, Dave.

Well, I guess last night.

People are lining up for “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” by the thousands. Its already shattered the overnight Box Office Record previously held by “The Dark Knight”. And really? Really? There are more Harry Potter fans than there are of Batman? Pssshhhh. (I’m seeing it tonight). [LA Times].

Internet Jesus Warren Ellis will be appearing at the San Diego Comic Con to promote his latest animated work, Marvel Anime. He wants to make sure that you realize that he will only be in town for 36 hours and then getting the eff out of there. He usually likes to make some kind of line that if you want to find him at San Diego he’ll burn you with his Stabby Stabby Vision, or if you see a man running down the street in flames, that’s him. [Warren Ellis].

There’s going to be a “Twilight” Manga! Strangely, I think this is the best venue for the series, screw the idea of it being a “novel.” I haven’t read them, don’t plan to, especially because Meyer’s literary explanation for the reason that the Vamps can go to school with normal humans is because the town is so foggy that it blocks out the sun. [The Flickcast].

Natalie Portman in “Thor.” I realize we got to this quite late, but I think its mostly because of my depression in the hopes that she would play the female version of Loki. I don’t know, I just think that would rock. Regardless, I’m glad she’s going to be in the movie in what should be a extremely strange movie for Marvel, but nonetheless ridiculously fun. [MTV's Splash Page].

I’m fired up as hell that Rick Remender‘s “Fear Agent” movie is a go. To be honest with you, I will literally buy anything with that guy’s name on it. Easily one of the most original minds writing in comics today, Rick is a only just recently a father, so any support given him helps his kid go to school. And trust me, you will not be ripped off. “Gigantic” “The End League” all of it is just brilliant stuff. This is just a big win in the department of quality that this is moving forward. [Hollywood Reporter].

Wow, that’s a lot of movie talk. How about Joe Kelly, and Eric Canete (current artist on “The End League”) doing a Deadpool vs Spider-Man special? I know, I know, it seems like Deadpool is getting more guest appearances in comics than Wolverine. However, I quite honestly can’t think of a more perfect team-up creatively to deliver this book. Oh yeah, there is also that awesome Skottie Young cover. [CBR].

Okay, so maybe I could only will myself a week break from a “Shining” reference. I can’t stop myself, I’m a creature of habit. Regardless, its that time again, and that means some comics coming out this week.

The big one, of course, is “Blackest Night #1” which comes with a free Black Lantern Ring. I don’t know, but I’m pretty stoked about that, but this comes from someone who doesn’t even wear his class ring. Check it out:

Also out this week is the new hardcover of the tear jerking “Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader” storyline that storyteller extraordinaire Neil Gaiman did with Andy Kubert.

For the adults, a new print of Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie’s “Lost Girls” comes today as well. I’m going to say it again: this is for adults. This is NOT “Supergirl’s Adventures in the Eight Grade.”

From Marvel this is the week where we finally get all of the sold out “Deadpool: Suicide Kings”. I’ve been hearing nothing but a ton of fun things about this comic, but its been selling out before I get the chance to peruse an issue. So, I’m looking forward to checking them out.

Like I mentioned the other day, I’m a Doctor Who fan, and this week marks the first issue of the new ongoing series from IDW. Other notable releases in science fiction comics this week is the adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” which was the basis for “Blade Runner.”

This week we have Steve Rogers coming back from the dead, in “Captain America Reborn”. Though it shouldn’t matter whether he comes back from the dead, it is sure to be a beautifully crafted story drawn by Bryan Hitch (“The Ultimates”) and Harvey nominated writer Ed Brubaker. Marvel Comics released a prelude webcomic yesterday to wet your appetite until you can make it to the store.

We’re huge Grant Morrison/Frank Quitely supporters around here so the fact that “Batman and Robin” #2 comes out so quickly after the first issue leaves this writer extremely happy. What I really enjoyed about this book was the rougher pencils on Quitely’s part and the straight up cheerful almost 60s Batman tone to it, and then cut to crazy creepy David Lynch sensibilities with Professor Pyg.

Marvel seems to be cashing in on the Deadpool craze, post “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” with yet another Deadpool mini-series “Merc with a Mouth“. The great news is, all of them seem to be a ton of fun. This mini-series with gorgeous horror themed covers by Arthur Suydam, is written by Victor Gischler and involves Deadpool being set on a mission to save the universe by getting rid of Zombie Deadpool’s decapitated head, while running around the Savage Land.

More really great comics coming out today is the second part of the X-Men/Dark Avengers crossover. As well as what appears to be the really beautiful “Justice League: Cry for Justice” written by James Robinson with art by newcomer, Mauro Cascioli.

Of course, if these aren’t the picks you’re looking forward to swing by the store in Union Square or visit ForbiddenPlanetUSA.com.
