More from that Mania.com, interview where I last excerpted a bit Mr. Moore’s thoughts on the Marvelman situation. This time, the legendary author takes DC to cause on their epic miniseries, Blackest Night.

To say the least, he’s quite cranky. He frequently goes on tirades blaming readers, writers, artists and publishers for what he sees as an industry circling the drain. I don’t mean to paraphrase, but the amount of venom is rather astounding and honestly, quite sad for me to recount. He even seriously doubts that the industry will be here in five years.

The final straw however was:

I think the lights are going out all over the comics industry. A lot of this is the fault of the publishers, a lot of it is the fault of the artists and writers, and I think, as you say, some of it is the fault of the readers.

The genesis of the interview was how Moore talks about Blackest Night as having been ripped wholesale from a story he did in Tales of the Green Lantern Corps Annual #2, which is reprinted in DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore. The story predicted the end of the Green Lantern Corps, and well, its not a ripoff if you continue from that story, and actually expand on the eight pages.

If you’re going to call it a ripoff of a story you did, than you can probably say that about a lot of stories in comics as the stories told today came from somewhere before. I mean, V For Vendetta had roots in 1984 and, well, not to be a jerk or anything but League of Extraordinary Gentlemen very clearly came from the works of other authors.

I’ll shut up, but Ethan van Sciver had something to say about Moore’s comments.

Okay, so maybe I could only will myself a week break from a “Shining” reference. I can’t stop myself, I’m a creature of habit. Regardless, its that time again, and that means some comics coming out this week.

The big one, of course, is “Blackest Night #1” which comes with a free Black Lantern Ring. I don’t know, but I’m pretty stoked about that, but this comes from someone who doesn’t even wear his class ring. Check it out:

Also out this week is the new hardcover of the tear jerking “Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader” storyline that storyteller extraordinaire Neil Gaiman did with Andy Kubert.

For the adults, a new print of Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie’s “Lost Girls” comes today as well. I’m going to say it again: this is for adults. This is NOT “Supergirl’s Adventures in the Eight Grade.”

From Marvel this is the week where we finally get all of the sold out “Deadpool: Suicide Kings”. I’ve been hearing nothing but a ton of fun things about this comic, but its been selling out before I get the chance to peruse an issue. So, I’m looking forward to checking them out.

Like I mentioned the other day, I’m a Doctor Who fan, and this week marks the first issue of the new ongoing series from IDW. Other notable releases in science fiction comics this week is the adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” which was the basis for “Blade Runner.”

I’m really, really trying to not go into a “Shining” reference here, so please thank me for that. Since our new online store has gone live (hint, hint its at the right or click here), we’re going to do a weekly feature of all the great stuff coming out this week in terms of comics.

The couple of things that I’m looking forward to this week is “Pixu: The Mark of Evil“. Handled by Indie darlings Becky Cloonan, Vasilis Lolos, and “Casanova” and “Umbrella Academy” twin brother artists Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon.

From DC Comics the obvious highlight of the week is “Wednesday Comics”. The first issue of this newspaper-sized comic that will run every week for the next 12 weeks is just bound to be gorgeous. With stories by “100 Bullets” team Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso doing Batman, and Neil Gaiman and Mike Allred doing a “Metamorpho” story.

Other highlights includes the first issue of “Dark X-Men #1″, the second printing of “Chew #1″ which people are throwing up their hands in expressing how awesome it is. I haven’t read it, but its important to try new things. Also is yet another Blackest Night prequel in “Green Lantern”.

However, what I am really pumped to check out is Jeff Lemire’s “The Nobody” which is an adaptation of H.G. Wells’ classic “The Invisible Man.” A number of people have expressed to me to check out his Indie classic “The Essex County”.

As always, for a complete listing of the new comics out today, head to our brandy new, fresh and user friendly online store at ForbiddenPlanetUSA.com.
