What a week for insanely violent comic madness. It’s as if Satan himself came up from hell and packed our shelves with his favorite stuff.

Avatar publishing has been at the top of their gruesome game with releases like Crossed, Garth Ennis’ take on the zombie genre, and Alan Moore’s Cthulhu-rape masterpiece, Neonomicon. If that’s not enough to get your blood pumping, this weeks’ Caligula #1 by little Davey Lapham will surely do it. It’s all the messed up good fun expected from the man who brought you my favorite comic of all time, Stray Bullets.

Also, the highly anticipated return of Godzilla to our beloved comic shelves has been realized this week by our good friends, IDW publishing. With Eric Powell’s name attached to this book we just know its gonna be good. Just look at that beautiful gatefold cover he did for the first issue. Grab a copy of Godzilla #1 while you still can, I know this baby is gonna go fast.

Those two hot numbers, a new issue of Walking Dead and Kick-Ass 2 #2– what more could a Matt D ask for?

Movie Score Magazine has some news regarding the music beind James Cameron’s forthcoming Avatar, composed by James Horner (maestro extraordinaire behind some of Hollywood’s most thrilling and memorable music for the past 30 years, including a great many personal faves, e.g. Star Trek II, ST III, and Aliens).

Talking about the stats and numbers of the score, Knobloch said that they “are still changing and evolving as James Horner is keeping up with James Cameron and the cutting room, who are still busy fine-tuning the film. The film will run the better part of three hours and there will likely be nearly as much score.” The main orchestra used for the score features over 100 musicians, including eight horns, four trumpets and five trombones. The string section is huge, comprising of 70 players. The music also features vocalists singing in the film’s Na’vi language, as well as a few other acoustic and electronic instrumentalists.

James Horner+Science Fiction= Genius. Ususally. So one’s gotta be excited. God, I even love Krull, if only because it’s a fantastcic score for one of the dopiest fantasy movies of all time.

And yes, I have noticed that Horner recycles many of his Wrath of Khan themes (1982- I remember opening day, was there) in Krull (1983- opening day, was there). Hell, that movie recycles roughly 11,378 things from every scrap of SF/Fantasy that ever came before it. It’s still damn cool.

I am a colossal Venture Bros. fan. Next to Robot Chicken, the show is the reason why I continue to have a television. I simply can’t go without either. So, earlier today Adult Swim gave us a preview of the new Venture Bros. season. Looks like the usual total brilliance.

Trailer Addict released a trailer for James Cameron’s apparently ground breaking Avatar. It looks quite pretty, but I don’t know about those Blue Cat people they look like a blatant ripoff of the Thundercats and look super-cheezy. Not that there is anything wrong with Thundercats, because there isn’t.

Yahoo finally released a trailer for Benicio Del Toro’s remake of The Wolfman. Now this looks great. Unfortunately, it appears the movie is now coming out in February, which is generally a month that studios dump their trash. I don’t know how this could be seen as trash with such fine actors as Hugo Weaving, Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins. Oh, also, you may want to pay attention to this movie as Director Joe Johnston is also leading the charge for the Captain America movie. The last I heard the Cap movie was being written as a period piece, pretty much existing during World War II. Frankly, that just sounds sick.
