Grant Morrison MBE

Grant Morrison, a writer of trashy “funny-books,” has been made a Member of the British Empire. The decline of Western civilization now seems to be complete.

Morrison is not properly English, nor of gentle birth, having been born to Scottish commoners.  In fact, his father was an active dissident, so deranged as to protest against the construction of direly needed nuclear weapons.

A fan of the Christ-hating John Lennon, Morrison wasted his youth playing in a “rock group,” before achieving fame in the torrid underworld of comic-books.  He has since written hateful screeds against sexual repression, monotony, the joys of wage slavery, and even consensus reality itself – not to mention our beloved Archons – in such works as Doom Patrol, Animal Man, The Invisibles, Kill Your Boyfriend, the Filth, New X-Men, We3 and All-Star Superman.  During this time, he wallowed in the sins of cross-dressing and drug use, communed with extra-terrestrials of unknown origin, and honed his skills in the black arts of Chaos Magic.

There is no future.  And England is dreaming.

New Arrivals: Rather be playing Zelda edition.

by Chris Troy

THE BEAST IS DEAD! CHRISTMAS IS OVER, AND NOW YOU HAVE CASH AND/OR  GIFT CARDS TO USE ON CRAP THAT YOU REALLY DON’T NEED, BUT YOU WILL ANYWAY, DESPITE YOUR WIFE YELLING AT YOU FOR THE AMOUNT OF TOYS & STATUES CURRENTLY IN THE LIVING ROOM…whoops, projecting in my articles again. Anywho, hope you had a happy whatever holiday you celebrate(d), as mine was pretty rad and full of new video games.

First and foremost: SH Figuarts update. If you recall last week’s article, I mentioned that Figuarts MechaGodzilla was a thing that we would soon have in. Change “soon” to “Currently in stock.” Much like his organic counterpart, Mecha-G is made up of 2 different materials; die-cast and zinc alloy. I really like that Bandai is going this route for these “MonsterArt” figures. He also comes with some variant pieces, nuclear breathe, and a stand for said breathe. In non-Kauji Figuarts news, we also have the Super Sayian Vegeta (Dragonball Z) Figuarts in stock. I have a nature bias towards Dragonball figures, as I was working at a Toys R Us at the height of DBZ’s popularity, so occasionally I have flashbacks to being swarmed by small children and neckbeards rushing me to get to the shelves, only to find out that the only figures we had in stock were some canon fodder villains.

That being said, the Figuarts are arguable the best DBZ figured made to date (which says a lot, as there’s been a ton of them over the years, crapped out by a varieties of companies in both the East and the West). The Prince of all Sayians is well-sculpted like most Figuarts, and comes with a variety of variants hands and faces. We have limited quantities of all these figures in stock, so get ‘em while we still have em. Ebay prices are scary yo.

I’d also like to point out that we have a ton of newish Heroclix figures instock as well!  For Marvel and DC-related things, we have both the Incredible Hulk and the Superman series in stock, as well as some non-comic book based properties in, like Gears of War and the Lord of the Rings. If you play, you’re gonna to want to pick up those LOTR Clix up ASAP, as the Hobbit trailer dropped last week, so there’s been a huge surge in anything Tolkien related as of late. Continue reading

The new 52 and old figures.

By Chris Troy

It’s been awhile Forbidden Planet Faithful! I’m back after spending some down in Orlando (I rode on Star Tours, YAY!) and now I’m once again ready to tell you what new stuffs FPNYC has gotten in.

And with my return, I’ve brought the NFL with me! That’s right, I’m talking about sports on a comic shop’s blog, but I severely doubt I’m the only dude who’s bought a comic book and follows the Jets on a weekly basis. McFarlane Toys just released their 2nd wave of NFL Elite figures, which is the latest revision of their long-time NFL line of figures. This wave sees 8 releases, including a few returning stars like Tony Romo and Mark “Nacho” Sanchez of my beloved NY Jets, as well as Goth-Wizard & Super Bowl MYP Aaron Rodgers.  These are more mini-statues then action figures, which comes as no surprise to anyone who’s purchased a McFarlane figure over the years. But hey, these are pro-atheletes, they shouldn’t be posing with the Justice League, no matter how good of a game Drew Brees throws. The sculpting is solid though, and the details to the uniforms and helmets are NFL accurate. For about $15-20 a pop, you can’t go wrong with these, unless you’re a Patriots fan, then we need to have some words.

Moving on to a more familiar topic, DC has launched it’s new 52 intiative, and despite a rough start with Justice League, the line has been pretty good so far. From someone who was only reading a handful of DC books per month. I now found myself actually caring about the likes Animal Man, Swamp Thing, and Wonder Woman. The Bat-books have been pretty great as well (Detective Comics, Batman, Batgirl, and Batwoman), Demon Knights is incredible as was Action Comics. I’m super-excited for Peter Milligan’s “Justice League Dark”, but man o’ man, Suicide Squad was bad. Real bad. Especially when you remember that Gail Simone’s excellent “Secret Six” was cancelled for it. Which brings me to the 2nd wave of Batman Legacy figures! WE FINALLY GOT A CATMAN FIGURE PEOPLE! AND IT’S FRIGGIN AWESOME! The line also has a Golden Age Batman and a silver-age Barbara Gordon Batgirl, but again, CATMAN! This is awesome and I will kill someone to own it. Each figure goes for about $20 a pop and is comparable to the DCUC line in terms of scale, articulation and sculpt. Continue reading
