Forbidden Planet NYC moved into its current home at 832 Broadway (bet. 13th and 12th) on June 24th 2012, two years ago today. Coincidentally, today is also the two year anniversary of the highest level of exhaustion I have ever known.
It’s certainly been an interesting, fun couple of years at the new* shop. Personally, I would like to thank, if not hug, every one of our staff, family and friends who helped build this place and continue to do so daily. Every customer who spends their hard-earned dough in our store. Every single person who has made these such memorable years in this location.
Hope to see you around the shop soon!
*Until we get another one, 832 will always be “the new shop” to me. 821 will always be the “old” one.
Comics writer Frank Barbiere will once again grace us with his presence this coming Wednesday, July 16th, to sign copies of Black Market, his highly anticipated new book from BOOM! He’ll also sign babies and, you know, other comics of his if you like.

George Kennedy is enjoying a game of Trivial Pursuit when Bigfoot breaks into his house and kills his daughter. Then a group of Bigfoot trackers (including Billy Jacoby from JUST ONE OF THE GUYS) set up shop in the same cabin. Sex! Practical jokes! Bigfoot wearing an Axl Rose wig! George Kennedy calls Bigfoot a “wooly bastard” and a “six-foot fleabag,” but that doesn’t stop the mythical beastoid from messing around with dynamite and REMOVING PEOPLE’S HEADS. Before you know it, DEMONWARP transforms from a movie about Bigfoot decapitating people to a movie about dimestore zombies, wet alien puppets, satanic sacrifices, and 1980s scream queen Michelle Bauer roaming around with no clothes on. Why is all of this happening? Your guess is as good as ours. But it probably has something to do with a zombie who does impressions of Jack Nicholson and a time-traveling spaceship. (Joseph A. Ziemba)
Tickets only $1! Hosted by Matt Desiderio (Horror Boobs) and Mike Hunchback (Seminal Psychosis).
Bring your tapes! We’ll be set up for a tape trade, with rare VHS tapes also available for sale.

The year is 1386. A group of wizards called “The Ancient Order” place a curse on a guy named Goza. Cut to 1986. Goza is now the proprietor of Goza’s Deli & Beach Club, which is a front for chopping off people’s body parts and eating them. Goza also enjoys dance parties with nude women, as long as they’re dancing to a rip-off of ELO’s “Don’t Bring Me Down.” At one point, Goza screams, “DON’T CHASTISE ME!” to someone, which leads to a showdown with The Ancient Order in a suburban park. There are hooded sweatshirts and invisible force fields. Goza may survive the ordeal, but will he survive the final showdown with a priestess who looks like Pat Benatar? GOREMET ZOMBIE CHEF FROM HELL reeks of weed, Doritos, and old Reebok high-tops in the best of ways. It was made by adults on Super 8, but most likely influenced by ninth-graders playing Dungeons & Dragons while watching EVIL DEAD. Plus it’s only 67 minutes. Bonus! (Joseph A. Ziemba)
Tickets only $1! Hosted by Matt Desiderio and Mike Hunchback of Horror Boobs.
Bring your tapes! Tapes for trade and sale courtesy of Horror Boobs.

The Whore Church, a Boston-based VHS mixtape collective, has created a cacophony of over-the-top action shots, cheap gore, gross porno and American propaganda intercut with sleazy 80’s dialog, nasty jungle rhythms and death metal edited from over 600 video & 100 audio sources! Seriously sick and awesome!
The multi-talented CHERYL GROSS will be appearing Forbidden Planet NYC on Thursday April 3 at 7pm, signing copies of her new illustrated science fiction novel The Z Factor.
The nineteenth century is coming to a close when Hans Kasper Ivan Karp makes it his life mission to relieve the world of sex and gender. Knowing that his goal will take several generations to achieve, Karp invents a new, dominant chromosome known as the Z factor. But not all are excited about his theoretical creation, called the umon species. Accused of being a lunatic and unable to defend his theory, Karp is shunned. Years later, his son, Ivan, is born-the product of artificial insemination. No one realizes what is in store for the world.
It is 2009 when Ivan Karp-who has been called an umon by his parents for as long as he can remember-receives a knock at his door. With his father long gone and human mutations becoming more prominent around the world, Ivan invites in a woman with many questions about the umon race. As he retells his story up to present day, Ivan reflects on his inner conflicts about his true gender and shares details of his homosexual relationship with Aaron Moses. But through their conversation, Ivan makes two startling discoveries: Katherine is his daughter, and Aaron has somehow achieved Karp’s dream-findings that suddenly thrust all of them in the midst of an umon revolution.
In this science fiction thriller, three generations involved in the creation of a hermaphroditic human species must come together in an attempt to bring the umons the one thing they have always wanted: freedom.
