Two Great Shows, Tonight and Tomorrow!!

WILD EYE INVITES YOU TO REPLACE YOUR GLITTER GLOVES WITH RUBBER GLOVES FOR A SPECIAL THEATRICAL SCREENING OF 1984s ONE AND ONLY, ADULTS-ONLY SPOOF OF MICHAEL JACKSON’S THRILLER – DRILLER!

PLUS, A BRAND NEW 1980s ONLY TRAILER SHOW EXTRAVAGANZA!

This Halloween, Wild Eye Releasing intends to raise more than your eyebrows with a very rare theatrical screening of the 1984 adults only spoof of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Driller: A Sexual Thriller, with Driller producer (and on-screen hunchback), Timothy Green Beckley live in attendance! And if this incredibly tasteless and terror-filled treat isn’t enough to get your blood flowing to the right areas, then our pre-show foreplay is sure to get your heart pounding: The Most Awesome 1980′s Trailer Show! An all-new Wild Eye 35MM assault of the most outrageous horror, comedy, and action trailers from the era of excess.
In 1983 Michael Jackson redefined the modern music video with the unforgettable pop monster sensation Thriller. Not soon after, in 1984, a group of savvy perverts and movie professionals capitalized on the popularity of Jacko’s horror hit by unleashing the unforgivable porn parody Driller: A Sexual Thriller on an unsuspecting world.
And on Friday October 28th, 2011 at 11pm your life will be changed forever as Wild Eye Releasing brings you the rare and bizarre opportunity to witness this unbelievable spectacle of filth and camp directly on the big screen for the first time in nearly 30 years — with producer Tim Green Beckley on hand to answer your questions and sign your underpants. See the original porn spoof as it was intended to be seen – with other people all around you!
But unlike the Neverland Ranch, there will be no one under the age of 18 admitted to this adults-only, Triple X feature and IDs will be checked, so please leave the kids at home, throw on your silver socks and red leather jacket, and moonwalk into the eerie, erotic world of Driller A Sexual Thriller.
The plot, if you need it: Follow the exploits of a Mr J. superfan as all her sexual fantasies degrade into nightmares after learning the true meaning of the title Driller during a werewolf transformation that we guarantee is unlike any you’ve ever seen! Then it’s off to Mr. J’s freaky castle where partying with horny hunchbacks and getting dragged into zombie orgies is as common as breaking into song and dance numbers that look and sound somewhere between a skin flick outtake and an 80′s pop masterpiece.
It’s all going down for one night only, 11PM Friday, October 28th at New York’s very own Cinema Village. Check out www.wildeyereleasing.com and www.cinemavillage.com for more information and to pre-order tickets, as this is sure to be a sold out smutfest!

555 // Wally Koz // 1988 // courtesy of Massacre Video

A hippie killer with a sex-fueled, murderous bloodlust is on a rampage and he’s brutally murdering innocent young couples! A nationwide trend of killings with the same m.o. happens to catch the eyes of Detective Haller and Sergeant Connor. Every …five years, within five days of each other, the killer strikes! Now it’s up to Haller and Connor to find out who is behind these grisly murders. Who is this crazed, blood thirsty hippie? And more importantly, what is the significance of the third ‘five’?

Written by Roy Koz and directed by Wally Koz, this rare SOV splatter-classic has recently been given the royal treatment by Massacre Video with a DVD, special edition DVD, and an already eBay fodder clamshell.

I BURY THE LIVING // Albert Band // 1958

A new caretaker at the Immortal Hill Cemetery begins to believe he holds the power of life and death in his hands. Is it merely coincidence or are sinister forces at work?

A tense and atmospheric descent into madness starring Richard Boone (the voice of Smaug in the Rankin & Bass version of The Hobbit from 1977) and directed by Albert Band (Ghoulies II).

KILLING SPREE// Tim Ritter // 1987 // courtesy of Camp Motion Pictures/Alternative Cinema

Tom Russo (Asbestos Felt) has begun to suspect his wife of cheating. So he takes to the streets to get revenge in a myriad of horrible ways. No one is safe!

Tim Ritter is infamous for his outrageous, low-budget horror films including Creep, Wicked Games and Truth or Dare. His 1987 feature Killing Spree (1987) wallows in extreme violence, insanity and gore-soaked depravity. Part Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer and part Pieces, it’s a no-holds-barred glimpse into the mind of a paranoid schizophrenic and bloodthirsty psychopath – presented uncut and uncensored.

THE TAINT // Drew Bolduc & Dan Nelson // 2010 // courtesy of the filmmakers.

The water is tainted. THE TAINT poisons the minds of men. It turns them into raging misogynists: monsters who want nothing more than to KILL WOMEN. When society is transformed into a land of sadistic violence and horrible brutality, it is up to Phil OʼGinny and his female friend, Misandra, to combat the horrible evil that is “THE TAINT”.

The low-budget independent film was made in Richmond, VA with the help of many incredibly talented local artists and Virginia Commonwealth University students. It is a testament to guerilla style filmmaking and a great example of what can be accomplished outside of the studio system with very little money.

DARK NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW // Frank De Felitta // 1981 // courtesy of VCI Entertainment

When young Marylee Williams (Tonya Crowe) is found viciously mauled, all hell breaks loose in her small rural town. Officious postmaster Otis P. Hazelrigg (Charles Durning) leads a gang of bigots in pursuit of the suspect: her mentally challenged friend Bubba Ritter (Larry Drake). Finding him hiding inside a scarecrow, they exact brutal mob “justice”…only to discover a tragic mistake! Now a strange apparition stalks the land seeking each of them out, as the legend of the Scarecrow begins.

This once lost, made-for-tv creepfest has been newly restored and is available on DVD and Blu-Ray from VCI Entertainment.

Following “Black Devil Doll from Hell” Chester Novell Turner made one more foray into the exciting world of SOV horror. Tales from the Quadead Zone is that film. Shirley L. Jones returns to star in this three story anthology.
DEEP RED // Dario Argento // 1975

A music teacher witnesses the grisly death of a psychic and becomes obsessed with trying to find the killer.

The 5th film written and directed by Dario Argento is filled with untrustworthy characters, red herrings, stylized violence, and a fantastic Goblin score. At times, cited as the best giallo ever made, Deep Red is as beautiful as it is ghastly.

This weekend is the much beloved Small Press Expo in Bethesda, Maryland! Many many many folks who make comics that Forbidden Planet NYC carries will be here, including your humble author (table H12, the one that’s mostly all red). Also tabling will be one Jonathan Baylis, who will be premiering his new comics anthology So Buttons #4. He was kind enough to send me a digital preview copy to review in the lead-up to the big show, so without further ado:

So Buttons #4 Written by Jonathan Baylis and featuring the art of David Beyer Jr., Thomas Boatwright, Fred Hembeck, Eric Kim, T. J. Kirsch, Tim Ogline, Paul Salvi, Noah van Sciver, and Paul Westover

So Buttons #4 is the latest autobio/antho (or “autobantho”) from series writer Jonathan Baylis. In it is a collection of short comics from his life, drawn by a range of talented artists. Both in content and in method, this book takes inspiration from Harvey Pekar’s American Splendor. In one piece Baylis talks about the influence Borscht Belt Jewish stand-up comics had on him in his youth, and to a large degree that influence is felt in this collection. Whereas Pekar’s work tends to run more “a day in the life,” Baylis’ comics have a one-man-show vibe to them. He appears in the comics frequently, but not as another character as with Pekar, rather as a sort of Rod Serling-type cutaway narrator.

The stories themselves are very stream of consciousness. The benefit to this type of storytelling is that it can lead the reader in some unexpected places. The challenge is that the stories can wind up ending abruptly and leave the reader unfulfilled. For the most part, the stories of So Buttons fall into the former category, providing the reader with many fun and engaging vignettes (usually relating to film and filmic influences). That said, Baylis could use a little more structure to his narrative. So… Loyal, for example, ends very abruptly. So…Stranger Than Parrot Eyes feels like it has finished its thought a page early. But as I said, those are minor complaints. Most of the stories work well. So… Folded and So… Sam Fuller’s The Big Red One Is My Favorite War Movie are moving and poignant, and are two of the strongest stories in the book.

The artwork in this collection runs a wide range, but all of the artists are very strong. Each artist brings a unique style and layout to the table that keeps the book feeling fresh. Standouts in my mind include Thomas A. Boatwright on So… Chalk It Up To Konglateral Damage and So… Stranger Than Parrot Eyes, Eric Kim on So… Folded, and T. J. Kirsch on So/undance.

So Buttons is a very interesting idea for an anthology series. Issue #4 is a very strong offering and well worth your attention. If you’re going to be in the DC/Bethesda area this weekend, swing by the Bethesda North Marriott Convention Center and stop by Jonathan Baylis’ table! And while you’re there, check out some of the OTHER amazing comics available.

From time to time I travel to anime conventions. While they are fun for anyone who is into this sort of thing there are some things you have to watch out for. I don’t just mean pedobear or the possibility that if you are in cosplay you may be glomped to death. No. The thing to really watch out for is epic anime fights. Yes. That’s right. Some cosplayers aren’t really cosplayers at all… so watch out! Or at least try to steer clear of the punching ect.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Gak is the one responsible (and getting the bejeesus beat out of him) for this video. I highly suggest checking out his other videos for some more of his great editing and his willingness to figure out new SFX to keep us entertained. One of which is a Death Eater vs an Auror in case any of you need something to get you even more excited for the last Harry Potter movie.

One of my favorite parts of the Saturday Nightmares convention is the focus on actual film screenings. So many conventions really blow this. I’m personally looking forward to seeing The Birds on the big screen with an intro by Tippi Hedren and Q&A moderated by one of the most engaging personalities in the genre Roy Frumkes!

But I’m most excited about meeting Debra Gordon, who was in one of my all time favorite movies Bloodsucking Pharaohs in Pittsburgh.

Here are the details one more time…

Saturday Nightmare Horror and Sci-Fi Expo

June 2–5, 2011

Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel
2 Meadowlands Plaza
East Rutherford, NJ 07073

See you there!
